Have you heard about our nature day summer camps being offered at Building Blocks?
Sign up today for summer camp at Building Blocks to ensure an educational and memorable summer for your child! Explore exciting, inquiry-based STREAM camps about engineering, creative arts, drawing, painting or art. They will also be heading out on daily adventures to Highland Rec., Dodge 10, Highland Community Garden, Huron Valley Council of the Arts and other local hot spots in our community
Young NATURALISTS at work: Discover the wild world all around you as you practice using scientific tools and explore our trails, pond, and prairie. Peer through a magnifying glass at ants in the grass. Find birds in the trees with binoculars. Meet Michigan animals up close, play silly games, and sing songs. By the end of this camp, you’ll know exactly how to uncover the incredible nature you can find in your own neighborhood.
Get Creative: Get messy and be creative as you explore physics, math, and chemistry to create an array of science-infused art masterpieces. Spin art, natural material creations, bubbling lava lamps, shadow art …You’ve got to see it to believe it! We’ll curate our own art gallery at the end of the summer. Who knew that science infused with art could be so beautiful?
In the Garden: Where does our food come from? Find out the answer as we explore plants from roots to flowers and learn about what they need to survive. Once you’ve seen how humans grow plants for food you’ll choose your own spot in nature and explore how it changes from day to day. View native pollinators up close, cut into stems and seeds to see what’s inside, and learn about how animals rely on plants for more than just dinner.
Make, Tinker, Test: Discover the laws of physics while building a boat, an test it in the creek. Use your imagination and the scientific method to create complex contraptions by connecting simple open ended materials as you complete design challenges and test your creations!
Green Hour: The day is full of action-packed day of exploration and then there is a need for slow down time which we call Green hour by playing games, reading, making art, or otherwise relaxing outside.
Summer Campers are provided with a cooperative environment where children learn together, make choices together and grow together as friends. It is these traditional camp elements that we emphasize and integrate with our high quality programming that ensures that the Building Blocks Nature Day Camp and Creative Art summer campers will have a well rounded camp experience that builds memories for a lifetime. Summer Campers at Building Blocks spend their days in the art studio and exploring the natural world around them. Your child will create visual art projects exploring a variety of materials and techniques; Creative Art, Drawing, Painting, Photography, Pottery, Printmaking, 3D Art, Woodworking, Dance, Theater, etc. A daily GREEN HOUR provides children with unstructured play and interaction in their natural environment (Highland State Recreation Area). Children enjoy weekly field trips to local, county, state, and metro area parks for a variety of eco-adventures and environmental education programs along with art galleries and museums.
